Building a Super Stock Strat

Well,here’s a recipe for a Strat that will ‘sing’…

First start with a Strat bought from ‘Best Buy’. That’s right the Best Buy Electronics Store.
A buddy bought a Strat from a Best Buy, obviously made in Mexico, but had a great fretboard and body to begin with.

Second: Some great pickups from Klein Pickups.
Third: A wiring kit from Mojotone
Fourth, a Brass Claw, Raw Vintage Springs, and a Brass Tremblock from Killer Guitar Components.

Fifth: Sucker a friend (yours truly) to put all of these into your Best Buy Strat.

Sixth: Make sure you have the Stock Strat Wiring Diagram from Fender.com

Sixth: Behold the absolute transformation of a Strat that can and will rival the tone of any Boutique Strat.

A Side Note: I did this whole process to my Strat on the other side of the ocean, and my friend totally drank the Kool-aid I was selling.

Don’t forget to intonate and set the radius!!!! The radius was set like someone set a straight edge across the strings. There should be a curve to follow the fretboard relief.

If you ever want to do this, know me, and are in the area, I’ll help you install the mess.

My friends are great people, I’m just glad they trusted me with this!

Take Care.

Wow – what a process! Totally rad that some “simple” hardware changes can make sound changes!
